If you thought that the WSOP main event was the largest tournament in poker history, you are wrong. You and me both.

WSOP main event has nothing on the recently ended Triton London Mega Tournament. The first-place finisher was to take home an insane $23 million. Aaron Zang won the tournament after a series of bold decisions against Bryn Kenney in heads up. Kenney had had an impressive run in the final table and had an edge over Zang at the start of the heads up play.

The tournament had a £1.05 million buy-in and attracted a total of 54 participants. £1 million was injected into the prize pool while £50k was for charity causes. The tournament was streamed live on PokerGo and Twitch.

Aaron Zang and Bryn Kenney equity chop

Even though Zang won the tournament, he didn’t take home the entire $23 million first-place prize. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even take the biggest prize. Bryn Kenney did. Prior to the heads-up play, the two players agreed to an equity chop.

Since Kenney at the time held a significant chip advantage, he negotiated for the biggest chunk of the $23 million. Kenney had a 4:1 chip lead over Zang and hence it was only logical if he took the biggest slice of the $23 million pie.

Zang went home with $16.6 million while Kenney cashed out $20.5 million. Kenney is now the biggest grossing tournament player of all time.

After a brave showing, Zang was able to cut into the Kenney’s chip lead and eventually take down the tournament.

Kenney tops the all-time money leader board

Before the tournament, Esfandiari was sitting pretty at the top. However, from the onset, it was obvious that whoever was to win the tournament was to be catapulted to the top of the all-time money list.

Esfandiari topped the all-time money list in 2012 when he won the inaugural edition of the Big One for One Drop. However, he has now been overtaken by Kenney who now has $55 million lifetime gross earnings. Interestingly, the bulk of Kenney’s gross earnings have been accumulated in 2019. He has made over $30 million in 2019.

Charity

Aaron ZangLike with most high-stakes tournament, the Triton event will donate a sizeable amount to different charities. As mentioned earlier, £50k from each buy-in will be donated to charities. The total amount raised for charities is $2.7 million.
