Dan Smith is one of the highest-earning poker players and was named the ‘best player without a bracelet. But now, he has proved himself to be the ‘best player with a bracelet’ by winning the sixth event $25,000 buy-in no limit hold’em heads-up championship for a gold bracelet and a top prize of $509,717. The 33-year-old poker pro defeated the German player Christoph Vogelsang in the heads-up.

Smith’s career earnings are around $38.5 million, including more than $10 million in the bracelet competitions. The event champion said he was not very concerned or stressed about the bracelet, but it was always in his thoughts. Apart from that, Smith is also known for his charity organization Double Up Drive, through which he has raised over $25 million for good causes. Smith loves giving back because it is close to his heart, and he is working on the expansion of his organization.

This event had a limit of 64 entries which built a prize pool of $1,512,000. Only eight players made it to the cash prize, and just four players reached the final day.

Final Day Action

Smith faced Italy’s Dario Sammartino on the final day. The Italian player took an early lead against Smith, but the circumstances changed when Smith’s pocket eights dominated the pocket fives of Dario. After that, Smith gained control of the match and finally claimed the title with A-4 against Sammartino’s A-6 with all-in. Sammartino received $193,537 for his third place.

Christoph Vogelsang eliminated the 2021 WSOP $100,000 buy-in event’s second-place finisher Kevin Rabichow.

The Heads-up Play

The heads-up started quite slow, but it took the pace as the blinds grew. Both players tried to dominate as the chip lead shifted back and forth, but Smith somehow found himself in trouble. However, he took the lead back after a double-up with his pocket sixes against Vogelsang’s A-5.

A few moments later, Smith came up with the minimum with his A (Hearts) and 4 (Diamonds), and the opponent raised to 550,000 with A (Clubs) and 10 (Clubs). In response to that, the American pro moved all in. The German player called for 4,130,000. Meanwhile, Smith gained the lead when the flop showed 8 (Hearts), 4 (Spades), and 2 (Diamonds). On the turn, a 7 (Diamonds) left Vogelsang in trouble as Smith was nearing a win. Finally, a 3 (Spades) on the river decided the fate of Vogelsang and sealed the pot for Smith. Vogelsang earned $315,029 for his second position, placing him in the 18th position on the highest poker earners list.

Smith appreciated Vogelsang for his great match and said he is a tough player who considers every spot. Smith considered every pot a fight and named his win a cooler one.
