Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf made his way to the 2023 PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) after winning a $30,000 Platinum pass in a £340 buy-in tournament at Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham. The DTD legend defeated 449 entries to win a £16,380 cash prize and the most desired platinum pass.

This year is turning out to be a good one for Ashraf. He started the year with third place in the £1,000 GUKPT Coventry Main Event, where he won £39,600. Next, In April, Ashraf won the 250 buy-in The Hendon Mob Championship at the 2022 Irish Open, where he cashed €10,825 for his top finish. The champion then topped the £560 PartyPoker Championship Nottingham Main event held at the Dusk Till Dawn, where he received £66,271 for his first place.

Ashraf holds the record for most tournament cashes at DTD, and it has recognized his success by placing him in the club’s Hall of Fame. Moreover, Ashraf will carry the flag of DTD at the 2023 PSPC in the Bahamas.

Only 68 players entered Day 2 of the event, securing a minimum of £600 for their endeavors. Some famous names to make a deep run were WSOP bracelet winner Ben Dobson, Ilana Belsky, and Bash Mahmood. Tamer Kamel, Daniel Trett, Tom Bacon, and Paul Vas Nunes also secured some cash but missed the opportunity of a final table appearance.

Chris Doran was the first player to leave the final table and received £2,500 for his ninth-place finish. Martyn Frey followed Doran in elimination and cashed £3,000 for his eighth place, increasing his tournament earnings to over $720,000. Next in the elimination line was Orlando Anderson, who got £4,000 for his seventh place showing.

Sixth place favored Matthew Church, whose elimination provided some relief to the finalists. Church went home with £5,500 for his fifth position. With only five final table players remaining, a deal was settled that assured the five between £13,635 and £21,560, but the battle for the $30,000 continued.

After that, an anonymous player was eliminated in fifth place for £15,820. Fourth place went to the UKIPT Nottingham High Roller winner Gary Miller. He returned with £13,635 for his deep run. Artin Bazazi was the next victim of elimination and received £18,905 for his third-place finish. Then, Ashraf defeated Nigel Hannan in the heads-up to secure the £16,380 prize plus the $30,000 Platinum pass. Hanna received £21,560 for his runner-up finish.

 

The $30,000 Platinum Pass

With his win, Ashraf won a free entry into the $25,000 buy-in PokerStars Players Championship event. This event is a part of the 2023 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Additionally, the $30,000 Platinum pass has the following perks.

  • Six nights’ accommodation at a 5-star hotel for the winner and a guest
  • $1,900 expense money
