Is Phil Hellmuth losing his touch?

Phil Hellmuth is one of the best poker players to ever grace the World Series of Poker going by the number of bracelets and cashes he has amassed over the years. However, things are not looking up for Hellmuth this summer – he is yet to win a single bracelet and his best cash so far is a little shy of $40k.

Hellmuth’s WSOP form has been on a constant decline and he is no longer the WSOP grinder he used to be. However, in his defense, compared to several years ago, his appetite for WSOP events has reduced. He only buys-in to select events.

Phil Hellmuth WSOP records

At the moment, Phil Hellmuth has 15 WSOP bracelets, a mind-blowing 145 cashes, and $14,623,543 WSOP earnings inclusive of his latest exploits.

In terms of WSOP bracelets, Hellmuth is the all-time best WSOP player. He has 15 bracelets to his name with his closest challenger having 10 bracelets. In addition, Hellmuth sits pretty on the WSOP all-time cashes list with 145 cashes. However, in all-time earnings, Hellmuth ranks 5th while Antonio Esfandiari tops the list.

When ranked against players aged 50 and above, he has the most WSOP earnings, Cashes, and gold bracelets.

Interestingly, even with a bucketload of bracelets, in terms of profitability, he is not the best WSOP grinder. He is not even close. As a matter of fact, he does not feature on the 20-man list of the most profitable poker players.

Hellmuth is drawing dead in 2019 WSOP

At the start of the 2019 WSOP, one would have easily nominated Phil Hellmuth to win a WSOP bracelet, if not two. However, things are not looking up for Hellmuth. He only has a single deep run in 2019 WSOP and even that was not enough to earn him a WSOP bracelet. Interestingly, he has only made one final table and it was in an ONLINE EVENT!! To make it even worse, he didn’t make it to the end of day 1 in the main event. He busted in less than 5 hours.

So far, he has 9 cashes with the highest cash being $39,460 for his 5th place finish in the $600 No-Limit Hold’em Deepstack $500K GTD event. He came close in the $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em event but 16th place was as far as he could get for $13,830.
