Casino and gambling giant MGM Resorts has finally stepped into the world of online poker. The Nevada-based company announced its online Poker platform, playGMG, earlier this month. The company already has a sports betting app with the same name. MGM’s online poker platform will be powered by famous online gambling operator GVC. GVC currently provides online gambling services under Borgata brand. MGM said in a statement that its online poker platform will be available for players located in New Jersey only. The company plans to increase the span of its online poker platform in the near future.
MGM Resorts to Launch Online Poker Platform
MGM didn’t disclose a specific date for the launch of its online Poker website. The company said that playGMG will be launched “later this year”. playMGM service will have over 300 casino games, including tournaments, progressive jackpot slots, multiple tournaments, and cash-play poker.
MGM is one of the biggest gambling and casino companies in the world. It has casinos and clubs in Las Vegas, Mississippi, New Jersey and Detroit. The famous casino Bellagio is owned by MGM Resorts. Some other notable properties of the company include MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay and The Mirage. MGM Resorts has a market cap of over $18 billion. MGM’s initiative in the online gambling world will bode well for the online poker industry in the US. In March, overall online gambling revenue in the Atlantic City crossed $20 million mark for the first time in the history. This shows the potential of online poker in the US.
MGM Resorts has been an ardent supporter of the legalization of online poker in the US. Last year, the company endorsed Senate’s efforts to legalize online gambling in New York.
MGM’s COO Corey Sanders called the company’s partnership with GVC a “historic moment”.
Apart from MGM, other companies are also joining hands to invest in the expansion and legalization of online poker in the US. Caesars Entertainment is a notable company which is in full support of online Poker.
