Scott Ball emerged victorious in the 2021 World Series of Poker $5,000 no-limit hold’em six-max event for $562,667. This was Ball’s largest cash prize throughout his poker career. In fact, he is not known for his poker prowess but for heralding a new poker streaming age. He helped establish the Twitch Poker channel and run the channel for several years.
However, even though is a pretty straight individual, a claim by mike Matusow that he scammed $800,000 from Hellmuth’s private poker game almost ruined him. Talking to Cardplayer, he intimated that the win was to prove to the naysayers that he can compete at top levels.
“I’ve worked really hard on my game for a long time. I’ve had really difficult last year and gotten a lot of flack that was not warranted at all, with a lot of not-great things said. I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to prove that I can play this game at a high level and compete with anyone,” he told Card Player after securing the title. “To come in here and win one of the big six-max events was soo important to me.”
Scott Ball Final Table Heroics
Prior to the start of the final table, Eric Tsai had a slight chip advantage.
John Racener, 2010 WSOP main event runner-up, was the first elimination of the final table. Racener shoved preflop with A-Q and was called by Galen Hall with pocket kings. Racener picked up a nut flush draw but Hall rivered a full house to win the pot. His sixth-place finish earned him $81,736.
After losing a sizable stack to the hall, Bin Weng’s luck soon ran out. Interestingly, he was eliminated by Hall in fifth place for $113,775.
A few hands after, Eric Tsai was sent to the rails in fourth place. He moved all-in with pocket queens but they were no match for Ball’s pocket kings.
Three-handed play involved Ball, Jonathan Jaffe, and Hall. The three players traded chips for a few minutes but Jaffe was the first to trade his last stack for a third-place finish. Hall moved all-in with pocket eights and Hall called with A-10. Hall flopped trips to win the pot. Jaffe earned $234,781 for his third-place finish.
After eliminating Jaffe, Halle had a 3:2 chip advantage. However, Ball won a few pots to regain the chip lead.
On the final hand, Hall had K-10 and Ball had A-2, all nuts. Hall shoved after the J-7-6 flop and was called by Ball. They both completed nut –flush draw on the turn but a 10 on the river was not the out hall needed to stay alive.
Ball took home $347,757 for his runners-up finish.
