David Peters won event no.7 at the 2021 USPO which attracted record-breaking 99 entries for $217,800.

The event was a $10,000 buy-in no-limit Hold’em event which created a $990,000 prize pool. Prior to the event, the previous record for the largest field at the USPO was in a similar event in 2019.

This was Peters’ third USPO title in an event which debuted 3 years ago. In fact, he is the second most successful player in the event’s history, slightly behind Stephen Chidwick who has won 4 titles so far. Chidwick won two events in 2018 and two more in 2019. Unfortunately, due to the Covid19 crisis, the 2020 edition of the U.S. Poker Open was postponed.

The win improved his career tournament earnings to slightly more than $35.4 million.

The first day was the most eventful which saw 91 eliminations and only 8 players returned on the second and the final day.

David Peters Overcomes The Odds to win Final Table

Leading to the final table Andrew Lichtenberger, a WSOP bracelet winner, had a narrow chip lead.

It didn’t take long for the first player to be sent to the rails. Kristina Holst was eliminated in eighth place for $39,600.

Soon after, Dan Shak found himself in trouble after his pocket sixes were trounced by Peters’ A-9 suited. His seventh-place elimination earned him $49,500.

After eliminating Shak, Peters took the chip lead, albeit narrowly. The next player to fall was Ivan Zufic after his attempt to double up with K-8 offsuit was thwarted by Peters after flopping a pair of sixes. He won $59,400.

With a 2:1 chip lead over his closest competitor, Peters continued to dominate, bullying other players to fold. However,  Jaffee continued to stack up and his efforts were rewarded with the next elimination.

Alex Foxen’s deep run finally came to an end when his A-K (suited) was beaten by Jaffee’s K-J(offsuit). Foxen took home $79,200.

Brock Wilson was later eliminated in fourth place for $89,100 to set up three-handed play between Peters, Lichtenberger, and Jaffee.

In three handed-action, Peters had a huge lead and it was almost insurmountable at this point. With the other two players desperate to double up, Peters was having a field day. It didn’t take long before Lichtenberger was eliminated in second place after Peters flopped a full-house. Lichtenberger won $118,800 for his third runner-up finish.

After a back and forth in heads play, Peters final won the final hand after Jaffee moved all-in with K-2 and Peters called with A-8. Peters made a pair while Jafee failed to improve his hand and hence was eliminated in second place for $158,400.
