How This Florida Man Used Poker to Pay Mom’s Medical Bills

Poker has a stigma attached to it due to which people believe it to be just a leisure game. Recently, a 30-year old man from Florida used his Poker stills to make money in order to clear the hefty medical bills of her mother.

John Langevinn is from Pensacola, Florida. His mother, an Italian American, is suffering from a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The treatment of this disease is very costly in the US. Money and time was short for the family. A few days ago, John told his mother that he was going “down the road” for a change. Little did she know that John Langevinn was actually headed to D’Iberville, Mississippi, to take part in 2017 Card Player Poker Tour Scarlet Pearl event. The place was two hours away from their place. John took part in the Poker event and won the tournament, with a trophy and a whopping $23,000.

John says that he didn’t tell his mother, Josephine Langevin, exactly where he was headed because he didn’t want to disappoint her after giving her a hope. John says that his whole family is a fan of Poker. They often play Poker cards on the dinner table after completing their feasts.

John has a keen eye for reading people’s minds and their subconscious. He says that Poker isn’t a game of cards, rather it’s a “people” game. He says that he pays attention to people’s lips and eye movements to gauge their emotions, which readily tell what they have in their hands.

In the Mississippi event, John Langevin went from 92 chips to 320,000 chips in the first round, thanks to inexperienced players at the table. At the start of the final table, he had 1.9 million chips. “I was totally comfortable,” says Langevin.

John Langevin sensed at the final table that his opponent was very strong. Concerned that he might lose and had to go home without any money, Langevin made a “deal” with his opponent to split the prize, resulting in every player taking home $22,993.

John Langevin isn’t a full-time Poker player, though. He is currently studying International Business at the Pensacola State College. However, John learned Poker for two years before actually stepping into a proper casino. After his amazing victory, there’s a chance that John will start giving professional Poker a serious thought.
