Day 2 Highlights

The bubble was just 10 eliminations away when the day 2 action started. Jeffery Fritz’s elimination confirmed money to the remaining 108 players. Many experienced players including two MSPT champions, became the victims of elimination and couldn’t make it to the final table. Michael Berk went home with $2,399 for 73rd place, and Renato Spahiu received $2,975 for his 59th position. MSPT champion, Timothy Gundrum earned $2,975 and Kyna England finished 24th with $6,526. Craig Stein’s pocket queens were not enough against the ace-king of Dave Powell. Stein ended up in tenth place with a prize of $13,437.

Final Table Action

The elimination started with Kris Davis when he moved all-in with king-queen and could not improve against Mcelhaney’s pocket fives. Davis left the table with $17,267 for his ninth place. Shaun Gillian followed Davis in elimination when he decided to call off with aces against two sets of Chris Tryba and McElhaney. Gillan received $21,115 for his eighth place.

Dave Holmes was next in the elimination line. Holmes found himself in trouble when his pair didn’t improve against Mcelhaney’s flopped set of nines. Holmes exited with $27,883 for seventh place.  Short-stacked Todd Rizzo left the table when a queen on the turn and flop favored McElhaney. Rizzo’s sixth place earned him $35,511.

Scott Fitzhugh decided to move all in as a reaction to Kevin Kerchenski’s raise. Fitzhugh’s pocket seven seemed to struggle against the ace-king. His journey came to an end when an ace appeared on the turn. Fitzhugh returned home with $46,069 for fifth place. WSOP bracelet winner Chris Tryba finished fourth when his pocket tens trembled against Mcelhaney’s ace-queen. A queen on the turn finalized Tryba’s journey and got $60,466 for fourth place. Kevin Kerchenski’s luck didn’t favor him when he lost two pots against the rival players. He lost to McElhaney when a queen on the high board decided his fate. Kerchinski received $81,580 for his third place.

The heads-up began with McElhaney having an almost 2:1 chip lead. Circumstances changed shortly when Dennehey turned his deficit into a chip lead with ace-king against Mcelheney’s ace-queen. Both players settled for a deal and Dennehey was declared champion with a prize of $155,933. McElhaney earned $133,058 for second place.
