Run it Once (RIO) closed its global operations 2 months ago. Phil Galfond was looking for an opportunity to launch the poker site in the United States; he came close to it, but will not have the complete authority of the poker site he founded in 2019.

Run it Once was available outside of the US and now it has been sold to Rush Street Interactive (RSI), a well-known online gaming development company. It is being said that the role of Galfond will be pivotal as an RIO employee.

One of the main reasons for not launching in the US might be the competition. Some big names like GGPoker and PokerStars give a tough time to their competitors. The United States Poker market is huge and that’s why Galfond decided to close the global operations last year so that he could focus on getting into the US market. The poker site is already well known and it has all the potential of being profitable and giving some tough time to its competitors.

The News

The Poker coach and pot-limit Omaha legend, Phil Galfond revealed the news on March 3, 2022, in a series of tweets. In his tweets, Galfond declared that his poker platform is now acquired by Rush Street Interactive. He further added that RSI and his vision about the software are to enhance, integrate and solidify it into the RSI Platform.

Galfond also said that his team met with several potential clients over the last year and a half; they are excited to be on the RSI team. He also added that his firm and RSI share values like honesty, fairness, integrity, and transparency.

Galfond has said that he will have a similar day-to-day role as he was doing previously. He will be a key role in product development and policy decisions. Galfond will be the brand ambassador and he will communicate with the poker community representing Run It Once Poker.

Rush Street Interactive

Rush Street Interactive is based in Chicago and is known for developing, supplying, and operating regulated online gaming sites. RSI launched its first Online gaming casino site, playsugarhouse.com, in September 2016, and later in 2018, it added an online gaming sportsbook. The RSI also offers Land-based sportsbooks in different casinos in Indiana and Pennsylvania.

Galfond has said that RSI offers RIO a lot as has experience with the gaming licenses in multiple US states. He also said that it has a huge market and it has the experience of sportsbook player bases and large casinos, building poker and gaming platforms to name a few.

Rush Street Interactive paid $3.2 million in cash and $2.5 million in RSI stock for the ownership of the Run It Once (ROI) Poker site. The launch date of the poker site in the US is still not clear. Galfond however is planning for a larger-scale platform. Some experts believe that it will take some time to operate in the US. The preparations, licensing, and integrating the ROI into the RSI Platform are lengthy processes. The states in which the ROI will operate are also unknown. The legal poker sites operate in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Nevada, Delaware, and Michigan.
