The 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open has concluded after almost two weeks, full of excitement and thrill. We saw many senior players shining on the tables along with some young, energetic, and emerging poker players. The $5,300 buy-in no limit hold’em championship event with a $3,000,000 prize guaranteed ran from August 5-9. This event attracted 1,110 entries building a prize pool of $5,383,500, more than the $3 million guaranteed. The Spanish poker-pro Sergio Aido defeated Jim Collopy in the heads-up to claim the title, the Seminole Hard Rock Guitar Trophy, and the $900,100 prize.
This is the third highest earning for Aido, with six final table finishes in 2022. In 2019, Aido cashed his career best of $1.8 million for his top finish in the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo €100,000 super high roller. His second career best was $1.35 million in 2017 for his runner-up finish in a $128,000 buy-in Triton Poker event. Aido’s lifetime earnings have now increased to more than $14 million, securing second place on Spain’s all-time money list.
Final Table Results
This tournament continued for five days, and the prize pool was distributed among the top 139 players. The Wynn Millions Main event champion, Andrew Moreno, finished in eleventh place while Matt Affleck secured fourteenth place. The WSOP main event winner Espen Jorstad made it to 29th place, and 2022 Wynn Millions winner Tony Sinishtaj settled for 35th place.
Final Day Battle
Only seven players returned on the final day, with Mike Kilker and James Mackey returning home on Day 3 after their elimination. Kilker received $90,650 while Mackey cashed $122,260 for his eighth-place finish.
Ryan Gianquitti became the first victim of elimination on the final day when he moved all-in with K-Q against the pocket Jacks of Jim Collopy. Gianquitti cashed $154,185 for his seventh place showing. Ugis Steinman was unfortunate enough to lose in sixth place when he moved all-in against Chris Brewer. Steinman went home with $186,200 for his efforts.
It took six hours for the next elimination of the table. After that, Raul Hernandez raised with pocket sixes, to which Aido responded with a call with Q-10. A river board pair was enough to send Hernandez home in fifth place for $231,060.
Bracelet winner Justin Liberto was the next to leave the table when he got all in with A (Diamonds) and Q (Spades) against the 9 (Spades) and 9 (Hearts) of Aido. Liberto got $305,955 for his fourth position in the event. A few moments later, Chris Brewer raised with A (Hearts) and 10 (Clubs) against Collopy. The latter three-bet shoved with 9 (Hearts) and 9 (Diamonds) out of the Big blind. Collopy locked the pot as the board showed K (Clubs), 7 (Diamonds), 3 (Spades), Q (Clubs), and K (Hearts). Brewer left the table with $412,375 for his third-place finish.
The heads-up play started with Collopy having 26,525,000 to Aido’s 17,850,000. Aido aggressively took the lead back by winning a big pot, and the chip lead became more than 2.5:1.
In the final hand, Collopy raised with A (Spades) and 5 (Diamonds), and Aido called with Q (Clubs) and 10 (Clubs). The flop showed K (Clubs), 6 (Clubs), and 5 (Hearts). After a while, a 10 (Hearts) paired the board, which Aido checked, and Collopy decided to move all in. Aido made the call to seal the pot and the title. Collopy cashed $614,775 for his runner-up finish, increasing his career earnings to more than $4.2 million.
