The Mediterranean Poker Open is currently underway at the Merit Royal Diamond Hotel and Casino, North Cyprus. Vadzim Godzdanker from Belarus won Event #1, $1,100 MPP Open, by defeating Alessio Isaia in the heads-up. He received $150,000, for his victory.

Godzdanker won a side event at EPT Sochi in 2020 and is also a regular player at Casino Sochi. Additionally, he loves playing in his home city of Minsk. Talking about his plans, Godzdanker said he had no plans of coming to North Cyprus, but he changed his mind after a group of friends convinced him to visit.

The champion said he loved his time and enjoyed the food at the Merit Royal Diamond Resort. The Belarusian was attracted by the scenery, beautiful mountains, and sea and said he plans to come back again and again.

Final Table Action

Iosebi Laperashvii became the first victim of elimination after losing to Timur Margolin. Laperashvii called when Margolin moved all in with the middle pair. Laperashvii received $14,000 for his ninth place. Raoul Iancovici started the day as short-stacked. He lost to Selahaddin when he moved all in with King-High against the pocket aces of Bedir. Iancovici cashed $18,000 for his eighth place.

Finishing in seventh place was Timur Margolin of Israel. The two-time WSOP winner started the day seventh in chips and soon took the chip lead. The Israeli poker pro lost a large number of stacks when his pocket jacks ran into pocket kings of Godzdaker. After a few hands, Margolin left the table in seventh place for $23,000.

Eleftherios Sinnos was the next victim of elimination as his stacks reduced throughout the day. Sinnos moved all in with pair of eights but were dominated by Selahddin Bedir’s pocket sevens. The Cypriot received $28,000 for his sixth place showing. Fifth place favored Frederick Anastasiades, who began the day as the second chip leader. Anastasiades lost to Ben Hershkovich when he moved all in with pocket fours. The Cyprus native was called in two spots, and Hershkovich won the pot after turning over pocket nines. Anastasiades got $35,000 for his fifth position.

Ben Hershkovich was the next player to fall when his ace-queen ran into pocket jacks of Godzdanker. Hershkovich took home $46,000 for his fourth-place finish. Selahaddin Bedir entered the day as chip leader and remained at the top for most of the day but lost some big pots later in the game. The Turkish player left the table in third place when his ace-queen was dominated by the ace-king of Godzdanker. Bedir received $63,000 for his third place.

 

The Heads-Up Play

The heads-up play continued for almost half an hour. Godzdanker moved all in with king-nine, and Isaia called with ace-jack. The Belarussian pro sealed the pot and title after hitting a king on the flop. Isaia earned $94,000 for his runner-up finish.
