Just three weeks after his runner-up finish in the $1,000 buy-in No-Limit hold ’em freezeout event, Young Sik Eum has now added a bracelet to his poker resume. The Los Angeles resident defeated 5,832 entries in the World Series of Poker Event #66: $1,000 Mini-Main No-Limit Hold’em. This victory earned him a gold bracelet with a top prize and a career-best of $594,189. Sik’s earnings have now increased to more than $1.3 million.

This event had a prize pool of $5,190,480, distributed among the top 875 finishers. Only five players made it to Day three, and in the end, Sik defeated Cosmin Joldis to secure the title.

Final Day Action

Cosmin Joldis had the lead on the final day, while Sik was second shortest with only 11 big blinds. The Japanese player, Kei Nitta was the first victim of elimination. Nitta’s pocket fours were dominated by the K-9 of Joldis when a ten-high on the river favored the latter. The Romanian player won the pot to send Nitta home in fifth place for $158,515.

Philip Lee was the next player to fall as his A-9 was defeated by A-8 of Eum. Young Eum flopped an eight and rolled two pair, but Lee missed on the river. Lee received $208,275 for his fourth-place finish. Bracelet winner Kartik Ved was struggling as his stacks were declining with time until he became clearly short-stacked.  Ved’s pocket fours were up against A-3 of Sik. An Ace on the turn favored Sik, making a winning pair for him. But unfortunately, the river did not help the fours of Ved, and he had to leave the table in third place for $275,593.

The Heads-up Play

The heads-up began after Ved’s elimination, with Sik having a chip lead of more than 3.5:1. On the final hand, Sik raised with K (Diamonds) and 9 (Clubs) while Joldis three-bet with 10 (Hearts) and 10 (Diamonds). Then Sik moved all-in, and Joldis replied with a call. The 7 (Hearts), 5 (Diamonds), and 4 (Diamonds) on the flop provided lead to Joldis, but Sik made a higher pair with the K (Spades) on the turn. A 2 (Diamonds) on the river sealed the victory for Sik. Joldis received $367,233 for his runner-up finish.
