Negreanu’s attempt to land his 7th WSOP bracelet has hit a dead end after falling to John Hennigan in heads-up.

John Hennigan has won the  Event #41: $10,000 Seven Card Stud for $245,451 and a WSOP bracelet taking his tally to 6, at par with Daniel Negreanu.

The event only attracted 88 entries which may be due to its $10,000 buy-in. Interestingly, the event was dominated by US poker players. 12 out of 14 players who finished in the money are US players.

The final table was a tough nut to break. All the players, except one, had WSOP bracelets to their names.

John Hennigan final table summary

The tournament was designed to last four days. However, due to the low number of entries, the tournament only lasted three days. Also, the final table consisted of 8 players but only 7 players made it to the final day.

Frankie O’Dell was eliminated in eighth place on the second day for $24,419. Daniel Negreanu started the day with the chip lead followed closely by David Baker. However, after the first few levels, the chip lead was wrestled from him by Baker.

Frank Kassela was eliminated by Baker in the seventh place for $30,817 and was soon followed by Chris Tryba in sixth place for $40,066.

In less than 10 minutes after Tryba’s elimination, David Singer was sent to the rails after being the short stack in more than an hour. His efforts earned him $53,621.

Four-handed play lasted over two hours before Mikhail Semin’s luck ran out and was eliminated in the fourth place. He won $73,810.

After less than 3 minutes, Baker, the short stack, was eliminated by Negreanu in third place for $104, 416.

The heads up play lasted more than two hours and involved multiple lead changes with each of the player’s stacks dropping below 1M at one point. However, in the last ten minutes, Hennigan managed to win a significant amount of chips from Negreanu before finally pushing him to under a million. It did not take long before Hennigan finally winning the tournament.
