The poker community has lost yet another legend. Marty Wilson passed away on Friday after a short battle with cancer.

Marty Wilson is an English poker player with vast playing experience. He not only excelled in poker, but he also became an astute reporter and a loved commentator in various poker rooms around the world. His first brush with greatness came as early as 1985 when he played his first World Series of Poker event. His career has been on an upward trend ever since.

 

Marty Wilson Late Night Poker Heroics

Marty Wilson was a regular on our screens on the Late Night Poker program- a Channel 4 television show. Even though he never won Late Night Poker, he once came close. He successfully topped a heat during season three but he eventually fell to Phil Hellmuth in the final.

Marty was engaging and always had a story to tell. His seemingly endless supply of funny stories made him a great storyteller to younger and older poker players. His extroverted nature made him a darling to many and popular celebrities were no exception. He taught a few celebrities how to play poker including Tom Cruise, Helen Chamberlain, and Michael Greco.

It is with great sadness that I write that Marty Wilson, my friend and of many at DTD, poker legend, tournament director, host of the Grand Prix Poker stadium tour, passed away peacefully last night. On behalf of Dusk Till Dawn our condolences to Marty’s family and friends. R.I P. Simon Trumper

He was one of the most memorable, twinkly, mischievous, life-enhancing characters you could ever meet, who brought so much laughter and fun and will be remembered with so much love. RIP.
