As the 2021 World Series of Poker nears conclusion, one man, in particular, is all smiles. Phil Hellmuth has now won a total of 16 WSOP bracelets after bagging one more bracelet on Oct 17.

Hellmuth won the $1,500 buy-in no-limit deuce-to-seven lowball event for $84,851 and the prestigious WSOP bracelet. He has now cemented himself as one of the best, if not the best, WSOP grinders to ever grace the poker community. As a matter of fact, Hellmuth’s performance in 2021 WSOP is nothing short of exemplary. He has reached multiple final tables and is leading in WSOP player rankings.

With his latest victory, Hellmuth has extended his lead over the nearest competitors – Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, and  Johnny Chan – who have ten bracelets.

The 57-year old poker pro believes he is not done yet and has a long way to go. He aspires to win 8 more bracelets before he throws in the towel.

“I’ve always said that I’m gonna win 24 bracelets. Then, Ivey said he might win 30. So I readjusted,” said Hellmuth “I just have this weird sense that maybe I’ll win at least 24 bracelets, but they’re not that easy to win in the mixed games.”

“There is a lot of skill in these tournaments,” “It’s harder to win the mixed games. If I can win four or five mixed bracelets, I think it’s going to say a lot about my legacy. I think I am playing a bunch of games at a world-class level now. n Omaha eight-or-better, I think I’m going to win bracelets. In seven-card stud, I’m 99 percent and I think I could still get a little bit better. Razz, obviously, I have the best record in razz in history.”

So far, Hellmuth has made four final tables including the $10,000 Omaha eight-or-better, $10,000 seven-card stud championship, and $25,000 H.O.R.S.E. As a result, he is in the prime position to win the 2021 WSOP Player of the Year title.

Speaking to the press after his 16th bracelet win, Hellmuth went into great detail to explain how badly he wanted to win that particular event.

“I’ve wanted a deuce-to-seven bracelet ever since the 1980s because it was the coolest bracelet to win,” said Hellmuth. “It was the one tournament that Chip [Reese] and Doyle [Brunson] showed up for. All of the big-name poker players, Billy Baxter, and all the champions showed up for that one tournament. It was $10,000 with rebuys, so they would be in for $50,000. I wanted that bracelet so badly.”
