Corey Wade topped a field of 1,165 entrants to win the 2022 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Tampa $3,500 buy-in-no-limit hold’em event. With a humungous prize pool of $3,728,000, this event had two starting flights and four additional days of action. The Arkansas resident cashed $471,686 for his win and added his name to the Mike Sexton World Poker Tour (WPT) Champions Cup.

Wade made his career-best score with this win, increasing his career live tournament figure to over $777,000. His previous best was $179,010 for the runner-up finish in the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $1,500 pot-limit Omaha eight-or-better event.

Final Table Eliminations

With six players on the final day, the first elimination occurred after more than 130 hands. David Tuthill’s pocket kings ran into the pocket aces of Fred Paradis. Tuthill lost in sixth place as the larger player provided an advantage to Paradis. The Tampa Bay local received $130,000 for his efforts.

A couple of hands later, Seth Berger moved all in with A-8, and Corey Wade limped in with pocket Queens and made a quick call. Unfortunately for Burger, the pair of eights he made were not enough to keep him in the game. Berger cashed $170,000 for his fifth-place finish.

Steven McKoy’s run in the event came to an end after a classic preflop coin flip. McKoy three-bet shoved with K-Q and over Wade’s minimum raise. Wade called and won the pot with a straight draw to bring the field down to three. Mckoy returned home with $226,000 for his fourth position.

After a while, the final three players settled on a deal with the following amounts.

1st place: $471,686

2nd place: $441,686

3rd place: $411,678

Additionally, the winner would also get the accommodations and air travel expenses for the WPT World Championship scheduled in December in Las Vegas.

Just a single hand after the deal, Brock Wilson became the victim of elimination. The high stakes pro limped in with 9 (Hearts) and 7 (Hearts) and then called after Wad raised with K (Spades) and Q (Clubs). A K (Diamonds) on the turn supported Wade, and Wilson moved all in. Wade made a call and won the pot with 8 (Clubs). Wilson got $411,678 for his third-place and 12th final table appearance of the year.

The Heads-up Play

Wade entered the heads-up with a lead over Paradis, but the circumstances reversed in a short time. After a while, Wade battled back to earn his lead in time. In the final hand, Paradis raised with A (Diamonds) and 5 (Diamonds), and Wade three-bet shoved with Q (Clubs) and 9 (Clubs). Paradis called, and the board ran out A (Clubs), Q (Hearts), 10 (Diamonds), 5 (Spades), and Q (Spades). A Queen, in the end, helped Wade win the pot and the title. Paradis received $441,686 for his runner-up finish.
